Welcome to Jeff and Laura Cowan’s website. As we start this new phase of our lives together we wish to share and preserve our plans and expectations, our travels and adventures and maybe a little reminiscing.
40 Years to 40 Feet
As this entry is written we have been happy together for 40 years, married for nearly all that time. When we first met, Jeff had a 1970 Ford Econoline van that was outfitted as a camper van. Ice box, hand pump water supply, a propane stove and not much else – other than a zillion miles. Still, it served us well and we camped whenever possible.
Then, it was stolen! Just out of college, a new job and our first son. what to do? Take the insurance money and put a down payment on a “pop top” Volkswagen Westfalia. Not the best camper, but got some use out of it. Pretty cramped inside, so we tied supplies on the outside and must have looked like the Beverly Hillbillies going down the road!
With another son arriving, it was clear that the VW was not practical. OK, so it was gone but not the desire to travel and see the outdoors! Some years later we were able to purchase a used Class C motorhome – a Lazy Daze. This was awesome for family time together, traveling and seeing the west on weekends or 2 week vacations. Rushed to fit in the maximum experience in the shortest time. Still, we were able to travel from our Southern California home to Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Oregon, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and in between.
As the kids grew older and more independent with their own interests, the Lazy Daze went to a deserving new owner, but the memories never left. And the love and desire to continue traveling and exploring in a motorhome never left. In fact, separation from this lifestyle made the desire to own a motorhome even more strong. Clearly, going to RV shows, stopping in at RV dealers was just throwing gas on the fire.
Years go by, kids move out, and we don’t need the big house anymore. Let’s kill two birds with one stone! Sell the house and buy a motorhome! Done!
A 40 foot Tiffin Allegro Bus is the answer! Arriving January 2018. Oh yeah, and retirement, 40 years in the making!
